The secret to consistent posting without burning out

Consistency is the key to social media growth - here's how to master it

In partnership with

As a small business owner, you should know by now that social media is a powerful tool for growth.

But keeping up with a consistent posting schedule can feel overwhelming.

Let me tell you now - I feel your pain! (this email is already a day late!)

Consistency is the one thing that will guarantee you results but it’s also the one thing that many struggle with; it’s possibly the #1 problem that keeps small businesses from growing online.

Running your own business demands a lot of you and piling on social media on top often seems like a step too far.

I do have some good news, however.

The answer to all of this lies in three pillars that I’ve used to build a six-figure and five-figure business:

1. Strategy

2. Planning

3. Automation

Mastering these will make you feel more secure in your approach and it’ll also help build your online presence while you get on with your other jobs.

Here’s my walkthrough of maintaining consistency and what’s worked for me over the last 20 years:

#1 Plan ahead with a content calendar

It’s so easy to post on the fly and just hope it’ll stick or have some impact.

But eventually, you’ll lose focus, life events will take over, and you’ll possibly go quiet.

The solution?

Create a content calendar at least a month in advance. This doesn’t mean you need to script every post word-for-word, but having a roadmap ensures you always know what sort of thing to post.

- Batch your content creation: Set aside a few hours each month to brainstorm and write posts in bulk.

- Mix up content types: Include promotions, behind-the-scenes posts, user-generated content, and industry tips to keep your feed engaging.

- Use scheduling tools: Social media management platforms let you schedule posts in advance so you’re not constantly thinking about what to post next. I’m currently using SocialBee, which is literally saving me hours every week.

#2 Create evergreen content and repurpose like a pro

You don’t need to create something new every single day. Instead, repurpose your best content to extend its lifespan. This is called evergreen content and will form the consistent foundation of your output.

- Chop up one of your blog posts and repurpose into multiple social media snippets.

- Convert a live video into short clips for Instagram Reels or TikTok.

- Use a customer testimonial as a tweet, Instagram story, and Facebook post.

Repurposing evergreen content saves you time while keeping your messaging consistent.

#3 Automate and outsource where possible

You don’t have to do it all yourself. Use social media tools and team members to lighten the load.

 - Automate posting: Use scheduling tools like Social Bee to auto-publish your content.

- Use templates: Canva or Adobe Express make it easy to create branded graphics quickly. I use both.

- Hire help: If your budget allows, a part-time virtual assistant or freelance social media manager can handle posting and engagement for you.

#4 Set realistic goals

Posting daily isn’t always necessary.

Consistency matters more than frequency.

If posting 5 times a week feels unsustainable, cut back to 3 high-quality posts instead.

- Focus on platforms that drive the most engagement for your business (no need to be everywhere).

Quality always trumps quantity. It’s always more effective to post less often with valuable content than pushing out spammy, rushed posts.

#5 Engage - but limit your time

Social media isn’t just about posting and broadcasting; it’s about engagement.

Responding to every comment and DM can eat up your time, however.

Solution:

- Set aside 10-15 minutes per day to reply to messages and comments.

- Use quick replies or saved responses for common questions.

- Encourage user-generated content (UGC) so your audience helps create content for you.

#5 Take breaks without ghosting your audience

If you need a break (which you will - make sure it happens!), don’t disappear completely. Instead:

  • Schedule evergreen content in advance.

  • Post a quick update letting followers know you’ll be back soon.

  • Use ‘throwback’ posts or reshare older content to stay active.

Consistency on social media doesn’t mean sacrificing your time or energy. In fact, scheduling most of your content in advance means you can focus on the other work that you have to do without stressing. Pick one of these strategies (like batching content or scheduling posts) and implement it this week and see how you get on. Small changes lead to big results over time.

Let me know how it goes!

And have a great week ahead.
